Children from across the County will have a chance to learn more about the stories behind our Easter traditions at the Malvern Showground on 16 April. The Chaplaincy for Agriculture and Rural life (CARL) is taking part in CountryTastic and will be offering a range of activities looking at food and faith such as decorating eggs and hot cross buns and planting seeds. Robert Barlow will be running CARL’s stand along with a number of volunteers. He said: “Many of our Easter traditions involve food and it’s good to remind people how hot cross buns and eggs represent the fact that Jesus was crucified and then raised from the dead on the third day. We’ll also all be getting very messy planting seeds and playing with soil to remind us of one of the ways that our relationship with God is explained in the bible.” Last year CountryTastic attracted 3,500 children and their families who enjoyed an action-packed day of cake decorating, jam making, cider pressing, chickens and rabbits, collage work and dray rides. The event is closely aligned to the Government’s Think Food & Farming campaign, which aims to re-connect Britain’s youngsters with the sources of the food they eat, in a hands-on, fun way. Robert continued: “This is a really fun way to spend a day of the Easter holidays and helps children to understand where their food comes from. It’s great that we’re able to be involved to explore the close link between food and the Christian Faith.” CountryTastic is open from 10am – 4 pm. Tickets are £4.50 (under 3’s FREE). All activities are FREE. Please contact the Malvern Showground Box Office on 01684 584924. ENDS. The Diocese of Worcester is one of 44 dioceses in the Church of England.
