The first two “JC Today” events of this year will happen in Worcester Cathedral on April 23rd and 24th. This is the seventh year in which the Department for Children, Youth and Education has offered pupils the opportunity to experience the sound, feel and shape of the service of Holy Communion. After a special welcome from the Bishop of Worcester on the first day, the programme will include two arts based workshops in the morning which build towards a service of Holy Communion after lunch, to which pupils will bring their songs, drama, dance or drumming and art which they have learnt and experienced in the morning. The content of the day is aimed at Key Stage 2 students and will be linked with the Agreed Syllabus for RE. Each school has already received a CD to help them prepare work on Christian symbols, the communion and communion service and will take home a piece of artwork suitable for display. David Morphy, the Diocesan Director of Education, said “I am delighted that our teachers want us to continue to offer this opportunity for pupils to be creatively involved in Christian worship. It brings together a team of staff, volunteers and musicians who, with the talents and understanding of the pupils, together make for memorable worship.” Schools attending: 23rd April: St James, Wollaston Cradley Primary Upton-on-Severn St Barnabas, Worcester Grimley & Holt Longdon St Mary (220 pupils approx) 24th April: Himbleton First Romsley St Kenelms Feckenham First Hanbury First Abberley Primary Malvern Parish Primary Tardebigge First (200 pupils approx)
