An attractive collection of prizes including a top prize of an X-Box 360 Elite (worth £250), vouchers, free passes to the Skate park, and clothing and equipment generously sponsored by Entity Board Sports (www.entityboardsports.co.uk) are on offer for those who want to get involved in the SK808 event at Redditch Skate park, on Saturday 5 July.  The event is absolutely free to spectators and participants and there is also a free barbecue for everyone.

St Peter’s Church Ipsley (www.ipsley.org) are organising a competition at Redditch Skate park for the young people of Redditch. The competition will be open to rookies as well as experts, and will include 3 categories: BMX, In-line skating and skateboarding. The competitors will be judged by a team from Redditch Skate park, as well as a visiting team of skateboarding youth workers from Bath (www.one-eighty.org.uk). Music will be supplied by DJ Jordan Chart. (www.bebo.com/jordanD7108).

During the competition professional cameraman Larry Warr, who has worked extensively for BBC & Sky, will be filming the action. After editing the footage, a short film of the day will be screened at St Peter’s Church at the evening event, which will also include the prize-giving, and a games-console competition.

Revd Keith Johnson, based at St Peter’s Church, Ipsley, shares the vision behind SK808: “We are very excited to be able to organise a competition at Redditch Skate Park, which we hope will be equally enjoyed by competitors and spectators alike. Whatever your level of competence on a Skateboard, BMX bike or In-line Skates, come along on 5 July at 2pm, and have a go! Churches up and down the UK are organising events during 2008, in order to bless their local communities, under the banner of “Hope 08”, and we believe that the place God would have us make our mark is at our local Skate park. Check out our website for more details: www.sk808.co.uk. We are very grateful to Redditch Skate Park for their support in helping us to organise this event.”

Editor’s note:

The event will take place at:

Wild Goose Playing Fields, Icknield Street Drive, Matchborough, Redditch

Saturday 5 July, 2 – 4pm followed by Free Post-Jam Event at St Peters Church Centre, Ipsley Church Lane from 6.30pm, including Bar-B-Q
