Follow in the cycle path of the Bishop of Worcester as he cycles around churches in the Diocese of Worcester on Saturday September 12th, aiming to raise money for the preservation of some of our most beautiful and precious of English buildings. The Bishop said, ‘I am delighted to take part in this great event again. I will enjoy visiting some of the many beautiful and historic churches of our diocese, and hope that my efforts, and those of others, will help to ensure that they are maintained for future generations to enjoy.’ Church buildings are everybody’s heritage but the burden of their maintenance falls to their worshipping congregations: contrary to what is sometimes thought the Church does not receive State aid. The Diocese of Worcester is the guardian of most of the Grade 1 listed buildings in Worcestershire, and so this effort is essential to help with the upkeep of these buildings. If you don’t fancy cycling, you can walk or ride a horse – sponsorship forms are available from the Old Palace, Deansway, Worcester or churchwardens.
ENDS. The Diocese of Worcester is one of 44 dioceses in the Church of England. It covers an area of 671 square miles and includes parishes in the County of Worcestershire, the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley, and a few parishes in northern Gloucestershire, south east Wolverhampton and Sandwell. |
