DIOCESAN SYNOD MEETING

The Worcester Diocesan Synod met on 23 June at Hartlebury Castle. The Synod brought together clergy and lay representatives from across the diocese. The Synod overwhelmingly voted in favour of supporting the Make Poverty History Campaign after hearing a presentation by Jill Smith, the area representative for Christian Aid. The Synod also heard of local initiatives in this campaign The Diocesan Secretary, Mr Robert Higham, has written to the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon. Tony Blair expressing the Synod’s views on the subject and their support of the Campaign. A copy of which is attached.
The Synod also:
- Approved the Annual Report and Accounts for 2004 which were presented to the meeting by the Chair of the Board of Finance, Mr Alastair Findlay.
- Discussed Clergy Terms and Conditions of Service which is part of a national consultation on the subject.
- Said farewell to: the Revd Canon Dr Christopher Hardwick, Chair of the House of Clergy, Vice President to the Synod and Rural Dean of Upton who has been appointed Dean of Truro; Miss the Diocesan Communications Officer Price the Director of Development who has been appointed Executive Secretary of the Churches Commission on Mission of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland; Mrs the Diocesan Communications Officer, the Diocesan Communications Officer and Public Relations Officer for the Bishop who is taking up a trainee art teacher post at Stourport High School.
- The Bishop of Worcester, the Rt Revd Dr Peter Selby, announced that Miss the Diocesan Communications Officer Price and Mrs the Diocesan Communications Officer had been appointed Honorary Lay Canons of Worcester Cathedral.
