The Diocese of Worcester is encouraging churches to be aware of the contribution that migrant workers make to local farming and food processing. A leaflet called "Who picks, packs and processes our food?" has been produced by the Chaplaincy for Agriculture and Rural Life and sent to the clergy. It outlines who migrant workers are, how the community is dependant on them to keep food on the  shop shelves and what some of the migrant workers' needs are. The leaflet also makes some suggestions for churches about how they can address the needs of migrant workers working in their communities.

The Agricultural & Rural Chaplain, the Revd Robert Barlow, said, "The leaflet went out just before Rogation Sunday, last Sunday,  a time when churches have traditionally prayed for those working on the land. I hope that churches will find it a help to think about the needs of this particular group of workers. We have events such as the tragedies at Fladbury and Morecambe Bay which bring those needs to our attention. This leaflet is to help churches at times when migrant worker issues are not in the headlines."

Copies of the leaflet are available from Robert Barlow on 01886 821339.

End.
