Section F. Admin for clergy and lay ministers

F10. Life assurance and death in service

The Diocese of Worcester Life Assurance Scheme 2013 provides life assurance for stipendiary clergy and stipendiary licensed lay office holders in the Diocese of Worcester. Cover is provided until the member's 70th birthday.

In the event of death in service this provides an additional benefit to that provided by the Church of England Pensions Board. The benefit paid under this scheme is the equivalent of one year's stipend at the rate of the Diocesan Basic Stipend irrespective of the particular office held and there is no distinction between full-time or part-time roles.

Those eligible are invited when appointed to their office to confirm that they wish to be members of the scheme and to nominate their beneficiaries. Forms are available from the HR Administrator.

The nomination form is returned to the HR Administrator in a sealed envelope marked ‘Confidential - Diocese of Worcester Life Assurance Scheme 2013 Expression of Wish Form (name of scheme member)'. This envelope remains unopened other than in the event of the member's death. The envelope and its unopened contents are destroyed when scheme members leave the diocese or retire.

Anyone wishing to make a change to their nominated beneficiaries at any time should contact the HR Administrator.

The Church of England Funded Pension Scheme (CEFPS)

Details of death in service benefits under the CEFPS can be found in the scheme booklet available on the Church of England website.

Diocesan Widows'/Widowers' Officer

The Widow'/Widowers' Officer maintains contact with clergy widows/widowers resident in the diocese. Her/his name and contact details are available in the diocesan directory or from the HR Administrator.
