FAQs

What happens if an ALM moves to another parish?

Collaborative mission and ministry is shaped by the local situation, and ALMs must take time to enter into their new Christian community. An authorised lay role can only be exercised with the support of incumbent and PCC. Further guidance in these circumstances can be sought from the Rural Dean.

What if the incumbent changes?

PCCs should include their commitment to collaborative ministry in the parish profile. New incumbents are strongly advised to assess their resources and honour the commitment of a parish to collaborative ministry. Inevitably changes of emphasis will occur, but should be related to the 5-yearly review in the code of practice.

How is a culture of collaborative ministry developed during a parish vacancy?

The Rural Dean has local responsibility and will work closely with churchwardens, PCC and diocesan officers to make the best use of ministry resources.

How does authorised lay ministry connect to the discipleship of all the baptized?

It is one strand of the ministry which enables and empowers the mission of the whole Church, existing for the sake of those who are not, or not yet, its members - in other words, a Church for the world. It should encourage the daily discipleship of each Christian, not all of whom may be called to ministry, but all of whom are called to witness and service.

What if there are other specialist ministries we want?

Ask! The needs of the Church will vary, and the support and training provided.
