Open Church
Welcome resources for parishes
Churches can be welcoming, sacred, life-giving places that enrich their local community and all who visit. But some are less welcoming and may not be open very often.
Open Church is an expanding resource to encourage parishes to try to:
- open their churches more frequently
- improve the welcome given to visitors and make it a good experience
- help visitors understand how the church building and its furnishings relate to faith
- let visitors know about the current life and work of the churches and their involvement in the community
Excellent toolkits, resources and advice are available on the internet - Open Church Web Links has recommendation from the diocesan visitor strategy task group.
Open Church has leaflets to download
Open & Safe - Buildings and Contents
In addition to the short leaflets above, Tim Bridges has produced a four page document - Open & Historic - which gives ideas of what to include when developing resources about a church's history. A revised archeology section was added in July 2010.
More Open Church leaflets are being produced by the diocesan visitor strategy task group and will be available from this page.
