Department for Children, Youth and Education
The Children and Youth Committee - Terms of Reference
The Committee is accountable to the Diocesan Board of Education and it is responsible for any task groups it may establish.
Background:
The Board of Education has a dual concern for Christian Education in schools and for Christian Nurture in parishes.
Constraints:
The Committee accepts that its primary work will be channelled through the full time Youth and Children's Officers whose day-today work will be supervised by the Director of Education in consultation with the Chair.
Scope:
The Committee, through the work of full time officers, relates to all the parishes of the Diocese, to ecumenical partners and Inter-faith Forum, to the Local Education Authorities, Youth Services, and to other voluntary and statutory bodies involved in youth and children's work.
The Committee works as a team, giving mutual support both practically and spiritually.
Members will assist in the planning and staffing of Children and Youth Committee events.
Aim:
To monitor, support, promote and innovate and pray for the Church's work with children and young people in parishes, deaneries and throughout the Diocese.
Objectives:
To support the work of the Children's Officer and of the Youth Officer.
To advise the Board of Education on all issues involving children and young people.
To promote the recognition of the place and needs of young people and children in the Church and in the wider society.
To offer practical help, guidance and encouragement to all who work with children in the parishes of the Diocese by providing training courses, teaching material and resources as appropriate.
To support and promote liturgical initiatives as they embrace children and young people within the worshipping community, including the development in all age worship and learning.
To plan and promote Deanery and Diocesan events for children and young people.
